Top Ten TBR Books In 2013

Top Ten Tuesday is an original weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Combining both a passion for all things bookish with an obsessive love of list-making, this rad meme was born. This week’s topic is Top Ten Books I Resolve to Read in 2013.

First things first-- HAPPY NEW YEAR! What better way to ring in 2013 than with a good old fashioned hangover and a list of great new books to read?! Okay, maybe not so much the hangover part but I'm all over the sweet reads. I've decided to dedicate much of my 2013 to playing catch-up with all the books I should have read previously so here are some that top my list. Just, please try not to gasp in shock and horror, mmk?

Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion - This is the #1 movie on my "To Watch" list, so it makes sense that the book is also at the very top of my TBR list.

Just One Day by Gayle Forman - Many of my most trusted blogger friends have showered this book with accolades, plus it sort of reminds me of a personal experience, so I'm really excited for it's upcoming release.

The Lover's Dictionary by David Levithan - I heart David Levithan (if you couldn't tell by my posts here, here and here). Suffice it to say, I'm ready to devour anything and everything he's ever written. This book tops the list though because it's such a unique way to tell a story!

The Map of Time by Felix Palma - I picked this book up in the airport at the start of the summer and, unfortunately, it became lost in the sea of new (to me) releases. I still love the concept and will be making a more concerted effort to read it, like, ASAP!

The Death Cure by James Dashner - I enjoyed Dashner's debut, The Maze Runner, and though I wasn't as thrilled with his follow-up I still really want to finish out the series. I need to know what happens to my beloved Minho!

The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle - This is one of those books that falls under the category of "oldies but goodies." Also, I've been craving a good fantasy and I have a feeling this book will fulfill that.

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak - I know what you're thinking and I know. There are no excuses for why I haven't read this so let's just move on.

Cinder by Marissa Meyer - I do love fairy tale re-tellings, especially ones that involve cyborgs, forbidden love and intergalactic battles.

The Monstrumologist by Rick Yancey - Monsters! YES!

The Paris Wife by Paula McLain - This book has been on my radar for awhile now. I'm really trying to branch out and read a variety of genres other than YA and I think this is a great option in historical fiction.

*Note: I plan to read all ten of these books for the Books, Bones & Buffy 2013 Catch-Up Reading Challenge. Just click on the link on my side-bar to sign up and join in!

Have you read any of my picks? If so, what did you think? And what do you resolve to read in 2013? Do you have any other  reading resolutions?

  2. HAPPY NEW YEAR! That's a great list. I had been eyeing The Map of Time and Cinder. I've been meaning to read The Book Thief since forever. At the top of my reading list for 2013 are The Stand, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children and The Scarlet Lion by Elizabeth Chadwick, but who knows, because as soon as I see something else, I want to read that instead :)
lol about the hangover part, 2012 brought along a bad hangover for me from drinking one too many Apple Martinis one night while out with hubby. *note to self* never do that again...lol.

    1. Happy New Year to you as well, Naida! I've had The Map of Time for quite some time and feel sort of bad that it kept getting pushed back on my list. I totally forgot about Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children! I want to read that one too!

Ouch. I was bad and sipped on a bit more tequila than I initially intended but luckily I was at home. So yeah, that's always good! You live, you learn! :)

  3. Happy New Year Nikki! So glad you're joining my challenge. Your list is pretty awesome. I have to say I'm dying to read Monstrumologist and Warm Bodies. Oh, also Just One Day and The Map of Time. LOVE LOVE LOVE Cinder and The Book Thief! Good luck:)

    1. Happy New Year, Tammy! I LOVE the challenge and think everyone probably needs to make a little extra time for the overlooked reads.

Everyone keeps saying Cinder and The Book Thief are amazing, so I'm really excited about those two in particular.

  4. It makes me so insanely happy that there is yet another newly recruited fan for David Levithan. I believe I've already spazzed out about him on your blog so I'll just leave that as it is.

Also! Oh! Oh! THE BOOK THIEF!! a;dslkjfa;dsjf Ok, I can't wait to read your review of it. It was a great read - I won't tell you how I felt cos that might spoil it - suffice it to say I loved it. I still love it.

Cinder looks interesting actually. I did see it when it came out but I was kind of reluctant to read it. The whole sudden YA wave of steampunk/paranormal romance thing kept me back a bit, actually. I'm weary of those types of stories to be honest. But I have heard good things about this one so maybe it's time to rethink my stance for this particular story.

I didn't realize Gayle Forman had a new book coming out. Have you read "If I Stay"?

Oh and Happy New Year! Looks like you've got some great books to make it a good start :D

    1. I LOVE LOVE LOVE David Levithan. Seriously, he's so amazing and I've been pushing Every Day on to everyone I know (it's, like, really bad). Haha, I just adore your enthusiasm, lady!

I keep hearing amazing things about Cinder so I'm super excited to finally get around to it. And I haven't read anything by Gayle Forman because those usually aren't my types of reads, but Just One Day sort of reminds me of a personal experience so I just HAVE to give it a whirl!

Happy New Year and happy reading!

I have yet to read any books by David Levithan and Gayle Forman but I have heard all really good things, now from you too!

    1. I was definitely trying to keep a variety in my list (I don't like to get too bogged down to one specific genre), so I'm glad to hear I picked some good ones! I'm always looking for new recommendations too, Kay!

I haven't read anything by Forman yet but I HIGHLY recommend Every Day by David Levithan. Seriously, it's life changing. Happy New Year!
