Annual End of Year Survey (Part 2)

Yesterday I talked about my favourite books and movies of 2012. Today I'll be reviewing the blogging bits and talking more about my reading/watching habits. If you missed it, you can check out Part 1 of the survey or join in and link up here. Mad props go to Jamie for hosting!

Blogging Life & Bookish Habits
1. New Favourite Book/Movie Blog Discovered in 2012?
This is really hard because I've met so many wonderful people since I started this blog and the community as a whole has been super welcoming. I'd have to say, I've really connected with Belle (Belle's Bookshelf), Kat (The Aussie Zombie) and Naida (The Bookworm) on a more personal level. I also love the ladies at YA Ficition & Whiskey Sours, the folks at Forever Young Adult and Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner).
I get much of my movie news at ScreenRant and Eat Sleep Live Film.

2. Favourite Review Posted in 2012?
I'd say the review that was most fun to write was my review of the movie, Strippers vs Werewolves. I'm still really proud of that one, haha. I also through my Apology To Divergent was pretty clever.

And, of course, I can't forget to add my very first post as a book blogger. It just says so much about who I am and why I'm here.

3. Best Discuss You Had On Your Blog?
So, since I'm relatively new at this, I haven't exactly accumulated many rousing discussions quite yet. I'd have to say thoguh, I'm particularly fond of my chat about The Characters We Love To Hate.

4. Most Thought-Provoking Review/Discussion Had On Another Blog?
Really? How do you expect me to answer that one? Uggh, sometimes you suck so much Annual Survey!

I was really moved by Jamie's Letter To My Young Blogging Self. It helps keep the ego in check in the dog-eat-dog blogging world. Stephanie's post on Love Triangles Inspired by Phantom of the Opera had me raving. I also got a good chuckle out of Jen's Book Blogger Woes.

5. Best Event That You Participated In?
Well, sadly, the ONLY event that I participated in this year was the National BookFest. However, that being said, it still would've won by default because I GOT TO MEET MY CHILDHOOD IDOL, BOB STINE!!! yAnd yeah, we're still on a first name basis, just in case you were wondering.
Also, I got to meet two of my favourite blogging idols, Jamie and Alexa, in the flesh. These girls are super sweet and a whole lotta fun!

6. Best Blogging Moment of 2012?
See above. Yeah, you really can't beat meeting R.L. Stine, Maggie Steifvater, David Levithan, James Dashner and Melissa Marr all in the same day. You. Just. Can't.

7. Most Popular Post On Your Blog?
Wow. I'm actually pretty shocked by this one. It seems that my movie review of Wanderlust is most popular (in views), followed by my review of James Dashner's, The Maze Runner. Was not expecting that.

8. Post You Wish Got A Bit More Love?
I'm shocked that my review of The Artist hasn't gotten more hits, especially considering the fact that it won the Oscar for Best Picture. I also have a soft spot in my heart for the awesomely bad book, The Hunt For Atlantis. Seriously you guys, it's the love child of Indiana Jones and Die Hard. Give it a shot. TRUST ME on this one!
9. Best Bookish Discovery?
Out of Print Clothing is just a disaster waiting to happen (to my wallet)! Also, I just got my very first e-reader, so yeah, after years of naysaying, I'm now a total convert!

10. Did You Complete Any Reading Goals/Challenges This Year?
The only (belated) goal I really set for myself this year was to read a total of 50 books. I haven't hit the mark yet but with only 4 more books to go, I think I can make it before 2013! I definitely look forward to participating more voraciously in challenges in the upcoming year though!

Looking Ahead...

1. One Book/Movie You Didn't Get To Yet But Is Your #1 Priority In 2013?
It's really easy to get caught up in the sea of bad-ass new releases but I'm making it my goal to read more of the classics, like Wuthering Heights and Frankenstein (I know!).

Movie-wise, I'm really hoping to see Pixar's Brave and The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I hear wonderful things about both.

2. Book/Movie You Are Most Anticipating In 2013?
I have a strong feeling 2013 is going to be amazing for the film world, especially when bookish adaptations of Warm Bodies, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones are coming out in theatres.I can't wait!

I tend to be a little behind on new releases, as in I don't know about them until they're out, but I'm really looking forward to reading Just One Day (Gayle Forman) and What's A Witch To Do (Jennifer Harlow).

3. One Thing You Hope To Accomplish In Reading/Blogging In 2013?
I'd say this was a pretty decent start to blogging and I want to keep on challenging myself in the years to come. I'm going to try hard not to focus so much on the numbers or comparing myself to the more established bloggers in the community and just remind myself that I do what I do because I love it. Sometimes a little reality check is totally in order. I also really want to engage more in deep discussions and engage you all more in meaningful conversation. So let's get talking!

It's difficult not to get all caught up in the hype of the new releases, so my goal is 2013 is to catch up on my already unmanageable TBR list and include a few more of the classics to that list. My movie pile is also consistently growing, so it looks like I'll be watching a lot of movies in the next year!

So, talk to me! Did you take the survey? How did you all do? What have you achieved in 2012? What are your goals for the upcoming year?

  1. Awwww, thanks for the mention! I always enjoy reading your interesting posts and your fun personality shines right through.
I remember nearly all of these posts you've mentioned, and meeting R.L. Stine is definitely awesome. I got an ereader too...finally...this week actually and am a convert now also and have pretty much been taking it everywhere with me. Its great!
I have the same reading goal for next year, to catch up on my TBR pile. Oh my gosh, if u read Wuthering Heights, I hope you enjoy it. Its one of my favorites and I shouted with glee when I watched the BBC film version and saw Tom Hardy was cast as Heathcliff. That is by far the best casting call in the history of book to film adaptations :p
I'll be doing this survey too so thanks for the heads up.
    p.s. I heart Sheldon Cooper :)

    1. YAAAAY! I can't wait to check out your survey results! And I <3 my Nook (so much so that I think my hubby is starting to get jealous!) but I think deep down I'll always prefer the hard copies of books. I actually started to read Wuthering Heights but only got about 5 pages into it because my 3 & 5 year old nephews wanted Aunt Nikki to play. I have the Tom Hardy movie-version on my Netflix instant queue and am going to watch it before I try to read it again. He's soooo dreamy, isn't he?

  2. Thanks for the shout out! That is awesome. We are still sort of new bloggers too, and I totally agree with all your comments on first-time talking/meeting authors. It is so fun.

Now get yourself to Wuthering Heights RIGHT NOW. :-) No more movies until you read this one!

    1. ::Hangs head in shame:: Yes, ma'am.

  3. Ah you are fab mwah!

I loved your apology to Divergent, I can't tell you how many times I've had exactly the same thoughts!

Warm Bodies has really got me intrigued, but I have to read the book first - it's the rules *nods*.

    Here's to 2013!!

  4. I think I'm going to have to check out The Hunt for Atlantis; you do a great job of selling it. I love those books that you call "awesomely bad." My favorite author is James Rollins. So this one sounds right up my alley.

  5. I LOVE Jen's Book Blogger Woes!

And your hopes for 2013 are spectacular. You can do it!

    1. Thanks so much, Lisa! You rock my socks off! :)

  6. If you love Rollins then you'll definitely appreciate McDermott --- it's the same sort of thing with the historical background and a ton of action. Admittedly, McDermott can go a little overboard with the action but I do love him for it regardless! You should totally check it out sometime.
