Here Comes The Swoon!

Top Ten Tuesday is an original weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Combining both a passion for all things bookish with an obsessive love of list-making, this rad meme was born. This week's post is Top Ten Book Boyfriends.

I'm bookishly boy crazy and it was super difficult to narrow down my choices to just ten. But here they are in all their amazingly swoony glory. FYI: My choices may or may not have been swayed by their movie doppelgängers. Just sayin.

Peeta Mellark (The Hunger Games Trilogy) - I admire Peeta's dedication, loving nature and his fortitude. Despite the horrible things he went through, he was still willing to sacrifice everything, even himself, for Katniss' safety. He's the nice guy who can kick serious Capitol ass and bake you delicious goodies at the same time. Just so sweet in SO many ways!

Ron Weasley (Harry Potter Series) -  All I can say is, c'mon! You've gotta love the plucky comic relief, right?  Ron is goofy, aloof and super cute, not to mention the fact that he sticks his neck out on more than one occasion for his friends and lover. It doesn't hurt that I sort of have a thing for gingers too (my husband is one, afterall)...

Eddie Chase (The Hunt for Atlantis) - Bald. British. Bad ass. This is Eddie Chase in a nutshell. He's a skilled action superstar who loves cheesy puns, leather jackets and smart girls. My ideal man, pretty much. I can't imagine anyone who fits this persona better than Jason Statham aka my-biggest-celeb-crush-of-all-time. Talk about swoon city!
Inigo Montoya (The Princess Bride) - I've made no secret of my love for this man on this blog on numerous occasions and with good reason. Sure, Wesley is the obvious choice, but I personally prefer someone with a little more subtlety. Oooooh, say, someone who's out for revenge. Someone who is good with a sword. Yep. The man's gonna need someone, er, something to do once his vengence quest is completed and why not let that person be me!?
Alcide Herveaux (Sookie Stackhouse / True Blood Series) - Holy hunky manbeast, Batman! Would you just look at him for a second?! Sigh. Don't worry, I haven't forgotten about my love for Eric Northman, it's just there's something to be said for a Southern boy who's good with his hands. And on the up side: he also turns into man's best friend! Two for the price of one hot one! What more could you want?
Roar (Through The Ever Night) - Roar first charmed my pants off in Under The Never Sky and my love for him grew immensely in the sequel. He's sexy, funny, fun and loyal. Also, the way him and Aria communicate is uber-romantic!
Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jurassic Park) - I think this may have more to do with my love of Jeff Goldblum and the character he played in the movie version, but still, I'm counting him. He's a PhD which means that he's intelligent --- definitely smart enough to survive a bunch of prehistoric predators. Not to mention, he's got smoldering good looks and a sexy attitude to back up all them brains. Oh yes. Bring it on, Malcolm!
Memphis Campbell (The Diviners) - Memphis is a deep character with a poetic soul. I love that behind all of his saavy charm there's a tragic boy with the utmost devotion to family. He's the kinda boy you bring home to meet your mama and one that I would be proud to settle down with.
Benedick (Much Ado About Nothing) - Benedick already made my TTT for unconventional romances so it should come as no surprise that he's on my list of fav bookish boyfriends. He's witty, theatrical and sheepishly debonaire. I love a man with  a keen sense of humour and he's certainly got one!

Oliver Montrose (To Catch A Vampire) - Oliver is one of those amazingly cocky guys that you love to hate. He's egomaniacal, selfish and annoying... and undead. But despite all that, you can't help but to kinda enjoy his well- justified arrogance. At the end of the day, Oliver is charming and alluring. Plus, when he really cares about you, he'll risk his neck to save yours (even if he still wants to bite it). He's one of those guys who is more than what he appears to be on the surface and I'd happily peel away the layers to discover the real him.

So there you have it, my friends. Now if you'll excuse me, I think I need to change my panties... Okay, sorry. That was kinda TMI. Let me ask --- who are your book boyfriends? Do you find yourself falling for a particular type or are your tastes as varied as mine?

  1. Oh gosh I love Alcide in the show but not a fan of him in the books. He is gorgeous though.
Love Peeta. Didn't include him on my list - so many books, so little time.

    1. I have to agree that I prefer Alcide more in the show, though I didn't dislike him in the books. And Peeta! OMG, I heart Peeta. He's just the sweetest. So many books and so many book boyfriends!

  2. You know, I read Jurassic Park so long ago, I can't even remember how I pictured Malcolm in my head. Plus, Goldblum. So yeah.

    1. I think Jurassic Park the movie pretty much shaped how I envisioned all of the characters, it was THAT good. And yeah, Jeff Goldblum is a god. Thanks for stopping by, Akilah!

Haha! I love Ron! He'll always be my king. :) I like Peeta but I'm not smitten by him. ^_^

    1. I have to admit, Julie, it was a toss up between Ron and his twin brothers. I can't help but to love a guy with a good sense of humour. It gets me every time!

  5. First off, I saw that actor that plays Alcide Herveaux on The Talking Dead one night, which is a talk show that comes after Walking Dead. Anyway, that actor is swoon worthy..lol. I have no idea bout his character, as I've only read the first in the Sookie books.
I love that Dr. Ian Malcolm is on here :) *sigh* Peeta and Ron is too cute.
I have a few book boyfriends. Mainly Mr.Darcy and Rhett Butler but I also heart Heathcliff. Oh, and Aragorn (Strider) from LOTR. I just noticed, my book boyfriends are all from classic novels...lol.

    1. Alcide = YUM. If you've seen him in Magic Mike, you know EXACTLY what I'm talking about. If not, then watch it. Just trust me. SOOOOO HOT.

You definitely lean toward the classics. Oh man, Rhett Butler is the epitome of charming and I love him for it. Aragorn is also a good choice. I enjoyed Legolas but I think it was more because (at the time) I had a HUGE crush on Orlando Bloom. Sigh.

  6. Ah, Benedick!! I love him! As you might have deduced from my user name ;) And I love the screencaps you've got there - that scene is hilarious :D

Ugh - I keep reminding myself to pick up The Hunt for Atlantis but haven't gone to the library in awhile. Thanks for the reminder - let's hope it works.

    1. Ah, good Shakespeare characters are SO underrated sometimes! As much as I'm excited that they're doing an updated version of Much Ado, I have to say, I don't think anyone could possibly play a better Benedick than Sir Kenneth Branaugh. I heart him.

Let me know what you think of The Hunt for Atlantis. It's cheesy, over-the-top awesomeness, but I still love it. Eddie Chase and his awesomely bad puns are my hero!

  7. Oh Dr. Ian Malcolm. I had a huge crush on Jeff Goldblum when I was growing up. :)

I'm more of a Gale and Eric fan than Peeta and Alcide, although I still understand why others love them.

    Loved your list!

    1. I still do have a crush on him, Kay! So no worries there. I liked Gale better in the first two books but by the third, Peeta won my heart. And I will always LOVE Eric, however, I do think Alcide is hotter.

  8. Mmmm I'm more a Gale girl, but I can see where the attraction to Peeta comes from (plus his movie alter-ego wasn't exactly hard on the eyes!).

But Roar? I am completely 100% with you there - LOVED LOVED LOVED him!

    1. Admittedly, I was a bigger Gale fan in the first two books --- but not so much after the third. Peeta got me there. And both boys in the movie were super eye candy, I agree!

Oh man, Roar! How I love him! :)

  9. I actually have yet to read Jurassic Park, but based on the movie alone, I could totally see that.

Also, I don't blame you for choosing Inigo over Westley, especially if we're actually looking at the book and not the movie. I thought book-Westley wasn't all that great. Cary Elwes, on the other hand... totally swoon-worthy, at least when he's playing those swashbuckling types.

    1. The book was fantastic but my choice here was pretty much based solely on his character in the movie. I heart Jeff Goldblum, kinda.

I thought book-Wesley was a little harsher to Buttercup than movie-Wesley, for sure. I'll take Cary Elwes in Robin Hood: Men in Tights over him in The Princess Bride, anyday though!

  10. Inigo Montoya! I just rewatched the movie over the weekend -- never gets old! And Memphis from The Diviners -- fabulous choice. One of my favorite books of last year. Terrific list!

Yes, Inigo is cooler than Wesley. :) "Hello ... my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die."

    1. He seriously has some of the best lines, in the movie like the one you mentioned and "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means." That one cracks me up every time!

    2. "I wonder if he is using the same wind we are using."

  12. I'm just now getting to post this TTT for the rewind, but having so much fun visiting others... love that Dr. Ian Malcolm and Inigo Montoya made your list! Both of them my favorite characters from those two books/movies.

Must read Under the Never Sky, Roar keeps showing up - and now I want to know what kind of communication you're talking about.

    1. Yay! I always love meeting other Inigo & Malcom fans! I must admit, those choices are motivated more by their movie counterparts than their bookish ones, but what the heck! It still counts in my book!

Yes! Yes! Yes! You must read Rossi's Under the Never Sky series. You only just meet Roar in the first book but you really get to know him in the sequel and he's FANTASTIC!
