Top Ten REWIND

Top Ten Tuesday is an original weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Combining both a passion for all things bookish with an obsessive love of list-making, this rad meme was born. This week’s topic is a Top Ten REWIND where we get to pick any previous Top Ten topic that we missed out on or want a second shot at.

Since I haven't been blogging here for very long there are a lot of great Top Tens to choose from. I decided to go with Top Ten Bookish Confessions because I figure it will let you all get to know a little more about me, the lady behind the blog, more personally. So yeah. Most of these will be about my bookish habits but a small few will also be about my book blogging. Please don't judge me too harshly!

Top Ten Bookish Confessions

01/Almost always I buy the paperback version of books, the main reason being price. I tend to reserve  hardback copies for collector's editions and/or favourites. I'll also purchase a hardback because I'm too excited about a new release to wait for the paperback edition.

02/ I used to be an adamant e-reader naysayer, especially when they first came out. For the longest time I felt like it was unfair to the smaller publishing companies and indie authors because it took away opportunities and money. I feel like a total hypocrite now that I'm seriously considering buying an e-reader due to lack of fundage and shelf space.

03/ I'm very OCD when it comes to book series. If I start a book series, I have to purchase every single book that is in that series and read it right away. I don't usually like to read books in between otherwise I tend to forget a lot of what's happened or get lost. I also must read them in order (obvs!).

04/ This one is more about blogging--I'm afraid my blog will perpetually be a sad, little sideshow. I started this blog because I have an immense passion for the written word and for film, but a small part of me really hopes that it will be a raging success. I've always wanted to be a writer and blogging seems to be the most attainable way to do that right now.

05/ This one is quite possibly the worst of all my confessions which is precisely why I've stuck it in the middle hoping that you'll skim over it quickly. I have a terrible habit of reading the last page of a book, first. D'OH!

06/ It's virtually impossible for me to put down a book once I start reading, even if I can't stand it. I know I shouldn't waste my time, especially now that my TBR list has grown exponentially, but I do try to give the book the benefit of the doubt through to the very end.

07/ I rarely lend books I own, however, I have no qualms about borrowing them from others. It's been my experience that I rarely get them back or when I do, they aren't in the same shape in which they left. I do, however, take expert care of the books I borrow! So yay!

08/ Another blogging confession--I think we all struggle with this one from time to time, but I'm constantly comparing myself to the other successful bloggers. I try really hard not to but sometimes it just gets to me. I often have to remind myself of why I'm here. I even have a post-it on my laptop with my own little mantra. If I can get someone to read a book or see a movie they never would have otherwise, it's all been entirely worthwhile.

09/ I don't have a library card. Say whaaaaat?! I know, I know. It would save me a lot of time, space and money but I'm just too lazy to go on down and sign up for one.

10/ There's a really big part of me that gets all like obsessively happy when I connect with other book bloggers. It's like I'm a teenage girl with a crush or something. It's hard for me to connect with people in my personal life who love books as much as I do, so this book blogging community is like a giant candy store for me. I try to be cool and play it all like, whatever, but inside I do a little happy dance and sometimes even squeal out loud. You don't even wanna know what I was doing on my way home from the Bookfest after I met Jamie and Alexa. Yeah. Like that bad. I'm quite surprised no one slapped me.

Whew. So there ya have it. Now that we've got that out of the way, are you all still here? Looking back on my list, I think I have some serious OCD issues. Maybe I need to seek a specialist for help. Do share--what were/are some of your top bookish confessions?

  1. I couldn't finish a book if I read the last page first, so that makes me weird too right!?

Here's my list for this week http://www.readingangel.com/2012/10/top-10-books-collecting-dust.html

    1. It's such a terrible habit to have but I just can't seem to break it!

I used to be a big ereader naysayer, too--then they released the Kindle Fire. My brother got it for me for my birthday...and wow. LOVE IT. I have about 90 books on there already, and I don't think I've even spent more than $10. If anything...the ereader makes it *easier* for small publishers/indies/self pubs to get out there now.

    1. My stubbornness won't actually let me admit out loud how excited I'm kinda getting about it...

  3. I almost always buy paperbacks too - except for the reasons you listed. I own maybe 12 hardbacks at the most. They are SO expensive!

Waiting for a series to be published SUCKS. I almost always wait for the whole series to be released and then overdose on them by reading them back to back. How are we supposed to remember things a whole year and dozens of books later?!

And you aren't alone - I've yet to meet a book blogger that isn't a little OCD ;-)

    1. They really are! And why is everything a series anyway?! I think it's all just a ploy for us to buy more books... I'm on to them now. ;)

  4. I think you chose a great topic for this week, and it certainly lets us know even more about you!
I'm also in complete agreement with the following:

#3: Yes, I need to read them in order. And I prefer if all the books are already out, so that I don't have to wait between each book! I make many exceptions though...

#4: I had a similar idea in mind with my blog. Let's continue to encourage and support each other! We can make it happen <3

#6: AGREED! I can NEVER put a book down, even if I'm hating on it. It just usually takes me longer to finish...

#8: I do this all the time, even though I know I shouldn't. It's natural, I think, because that's something we've learned to do over the years. I try not to let it get to me too much though!

#10: Yep, I get so EXCITED. I love meeting fellow booklovers, and I've had nothing but great experiences when it comes to meeting bloggers.

  5. I actually prefer paperbacks to hardcovers.

I hate owning one series that is part paperback and part hardcover, but I do it because I'm impatient.

I also do the crazy girl squeal when connecting with other book bloggers... god help the poor sucker that meets me in person! (jk!) (she said to lull you into a false sense of safety)

    1. I'm with you. I prefer to own either all paperback or all hardback of a series though my impatience often has me buying both at times.

Haha I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one to do the crazy girl squeal! I was getting worried for a minute there. Uh oh, should I be worried here? ;)

  6. Great topic :) I always buy the paperback version too, unless I just have to have the book straight away.
I agree on lending books, I'm lucky to get them back at all!
Your blog is awesome and a raging success :)
I guess my bookish confession is that 1. I'll buy books even though I know I won't be able to read them anytime in the near future becuase my TBR pile is immense and 2. I dog ear my books. Yep, I also tend to break the spine.

    1. Aww, you always know how to put a smile on my face Naida! I frequently dog ear my books too, though now that I have acquired a proper bookmark, I do it much less frequently.

  7. I'm completely with you on #1 and I, too, have a blogging mantra. It's okay. We all feel a twinge now and then.

  8. AHHH I cannot believe you skip to the last page of the book!!! I can't do that! Though sometimes I let the page flutter and I HAPPEN to see a line from the last page and then I internally yell at myself!

  9. Awwww you are too lovely. Seriously, it takes time to become successful, but you'll get there. You've got passion and that shines through.

    Also Jamie is da bomb.

Also. I am jealous you have met Alexa.

ALSO if I'm nervous, sometimes I read the last page before actually getting to it in it's own time.
